Community Outreach Programs

Education is one of the principal missions of Sidelong Dance Co. Four distinct educational programs serve both individuals and the community as a whole.

Apprentice Program

"The young dancers responded with athleticism and polish, rising to the occasion like professionals."

Winston-Salem Journal, Nov.9, 2002

The apprentice program of Sidelong Dance is open to individuals between the ages of 13-18. This program is designed to give students an opportunity to be a part of a professional dance performance. Auditions for this program will generally be held in late August of each year. To be selected, students must demonstrate an open mind, strong technique, and the maturity to focus and to quickly learn choreography. Dancers must commit to all rehearsals, dress/technical rehearsals, and all apprentice performances. This program is provided at no cost to participants.

Discounted Tickets for Community Service Organizations

We would like to bring dance to as many people as possible, Sidelong Dance offers discounted tickets to community service organizations to share live performance with those who have limited opportunities to enjoy the arts. To obtain discounted tickets, please contact Sidelong Dance at least 1 week prior to any Sidelong Dance sponsored event.

Participation in Non-Profit Fundraising Activities

Sidelong Dance Co. seeks to help other non-profit organizations and is available to perform at no cost in fundraisers and gala events. Past activities include performances for Dancing for Friends, a benefit for Triad Health Project, and Caring HeARTs, a fundraiser for HIV Outreach Programs and Education (HOPE).

Lecture/Demonstrations

Sidelong Dance Co. offers lecture/demonstrations, master classes, and other workshops to groups of all ages. Specific programs can be tailored to dancers and non-dancers alike. Mini-performances, introduction to dance composition, dance classes, and interactive demonstrations can be adapted to a variety of spaces, interests, ages, and abilities.
